You should visit the town hall, Palazzo Comunale, located close to Piazza Maggiore if coming from Via Massimo d’Azeglio. The entry is free and you can admire Bologna’s collection of art, an impressive staircase attributed to artist Bramante as well as very different style of architecture, harmoniously joined on Palazzo’s facade.
