The baptistry in Florence

Posted 1 year ago by sakis in response to jiro's question: What is the oldest building in Florence? I fancy outdated stuff. (give a different answer) .

It's the Battisero, built between the 5th and the 11th century. Dante was baptized here as an infant, but what makes it famous is the gilded-bronze doors. They are widely known as The Gates of Paradise and belong to Lorenzo Ghiberti. The oldest are actually set in the south and are the works of Andrea Pisano. Don't heitate, pay the 3 euros visiting charge!
