It's Teatro Massimo in Piazza Giuseppe Verdi, you'll have a guided tour for 3 euros. The closing scene was shot there, if I remember well. The theatre reminds the Italians both of the unification of their country and the tragedy of Palermo, which suffered severe bombing in the second world war and remained a decrepit city for a pretty long time. Go to Massimo before 4pm, if you want to see more than the gates.
