Carcere Mamertino... a terrile place in Rome's history.

Posted 1 year ago by trakker in response to michele's question: who knows the history of Mamertino prison? (give a different answer) .

In the Roman period Mamertino prison (Carcere Mamertino) was the hell for thousands of poeple. Those imprisoned weren't given any food until they would die. St Peter himself spent some time here, but during that period he tried to baptise the jailers... and he succeded. Prison's hours: 9am-12.30pm & 2.30-5.30pm.
