Rome, The Pantheon

Posted 1 year ago by sakis in response to tania's question: Is it expensive to enter the Pantheon in Rome? And why is it so appreciated? (give a different answer) .

There's no entrance charge, don't worry. The Pantheon is best preserved from all the ancient buildings in Rome, although it has suffered a lot of damage over the centuries. Built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 before Christ as a sign of bowing to the planetary gods, the Pantheon was then destroyed by an emperor of the eastern empire and by Pope Urban VII. He melted the bronze from the portico for building the altar of St. Peter. The dome of Pantheon is believed to be an architectural marvel - Raphael the painter and kings Umberto I, Emanuele II are buried here.
