Rome's Spanish Steps

Posted 1 year ago by vegok in response to sakis's question: Can you tell me more details about the Spanish Steps in Rome? Why are they called Spanish? (give a different answer) .

The Spanish Steps, in their italian name Scalinata della Trinita dei Monti, are located in Piazza di Spagna and lead to the square's church .The piazza, steps and church were a place of gathering for foreigners and locals. The steps were named after the Spanish embassy to the Holy See and build with a French legacy in 1725 in order to link the piazza with the people that were living above it. So that you find it easier walk on Via del Corso, then take turn on Via Condotti, an elegant shopping street at the end of which you will find Piazza di Spagna.
