The huge cathedral of Rome: Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano

Posted 1 year ago by shauli in response to avatar katia's question: My friends recommend me to go to Piazza San Giovanni as soon as I'll get to Rome. Why is the area so important? (give a different answer) .

The most obvious sight in the square is the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, Rome's cathedral and pope's seat. It was founded by Constantine in the 4th century and the greatest feature it has are 15 huge statues representing Jesus Christ with St John the Baptist and the 12 apostles. In fact there are other many features... but this what I liked most
