Yep, Trastevere gives off that old Roman scent due to its narrow streets and to the river Tiber, which separates it from centro storico. Gorgeous at night, it's also a fine place to hop from bar to bar. Visit Basilica di Santa Maria in Trastevere, believed to be the oldest Roman church devoted to the Virgin. It has a superb mosaic of Our Mother and a Romanesque bell tower and facade.
