Duomo of Siena

Posted 1 year ago by sasha in response to rampage's question: Why is the Dome in Siena so special? Thanks for sheding light. (give a different answer) .

Apart from Venice, Siena's cathedral is considered the most wonderful
in Italy. The lower section displays carvings by Giovani Pisano, a statue of St. Jerome and Mary Magdalene by Bernini. The bronze artwork portraying St. John the Baptist signed by Donatelo is astonishing as well. The bald construction started in 1196, but it was stopped because the Black Death struck, sweaping 70.000 out of the 100.000 inhabitants of Siena. Hope I was convincing..see ya!
