The past of Sorrento

Posted 1 year ago by avatar lizette in response to parker's question: What is the story behind Sorrento? Who were the founders of the city? (give a different answer) .

It is believed that Ulysses' nephew, the king of Ausoni has put the bases of Sorrento, which might be true, as the Ausoni tribe was among the oldest in the region. Before belonging to the Western Roman Empire, the city was under the influence of Greece, who left the Athenaion, a great sanctuary, as a proof. Legends says the Athenaion was meant to praise the cult of the Sirens, whose singing bewitched the sailors and made them clash into cliffs and drown.
