Basilica di San Marco, Venice

When I went to Venice last year I visited Piazza San Marco and its Basilica di San Marco. I don't know if it is the most interesting one but it was built to house St Mark's body brought here from his Egyptian burial place. The interior of the basilica is decorated with mosaics, its Galleria displays the bronze horses, a group of statues won in the 12th century Fourth Crusade. Worth seeing is the Pala d'Oro , an impressive gold altarpiece decorated with jewels. There are some small visiting fees: about 2 euro for the Galleria and 1.50 for Pala d'Oro.
