Venice's oldest cathedral: Santa Maria Assunta (on Torcello Island)

Posted 1 year ago by avatar claire in response to nonside's question: main places to visit on Torcello island, venice? (give a different answer) .

try not to miss the island's cathedral, the famous Santa Maria Assunta... because this is the first cathedral built in Venice. It was built in the 7th century... so you can imagine how old it is. The Byzantine works inside are breathtaking. To visit the church you must pay 3€ (and 2€ if you want to go up the tower). Locatio: Piazza Torcello.
